I was just telling Shanti that I realised how silly I used to be. Like half of Singapore’s teenagers, I caught the ant-ish font bug. I should have been murdered for using fonts like Verdana and Tahoma in 9 pixels, 8 even!
I’ve not-so-recently realised how tedious it is to read such font. I suppose I shouldn’t torture people just because it makes the blog look… neater. After all, we visit a person’s blog to read what they have to say, and not to admire the stunningly beautiful layout they have.
Of course, I’m not denying the importance of the latter, nor am I insulting you if that’s what you visit blogs for. In any case, wouldn’t it be easier to simply allow others to read what you have painstakingly typed without them having to squint (because the words are packed in paragraphs and look like ant’s stew), or wonder if it’s actually worth it to bother.
Then there are the blogs with background colors that really weren’t made for that purpose. Wouldn’t you agree that no matter how much one loves Hot Pink or Red in this particular shade (#FF0000), one should never use it as a background color? Do you not agree that it hurts the eyes to visit such a blog? Yes, surely you can argue that if those people aren’t happy with your layout then they can jolly well leave your blog and yada yada yada. Yes, it’s your blog and yes, you can do anything you want with it.
Come on, lets face it. We all created (public) blogs because we wanted to express ourselves, whether it be our opinions, or about our day, and have others read it. If you’re going to tell me that you never wanted anyone to read your blog in the first place (or in the future), then fine, I have nothing to say. But if it’s otherwise, then I suggest you don’t have a background color that turns people off the moment they click on the page.
